Ask The Baker In The Basement

Hi! I’m the “baker in the basement”. And I’d love to share food, baking, and cooking tips and information with you.
As those of us who are old hands in the kitchen know, experience is an excellent teacher when it comes to modifying recipes, combining different spices, pairing foods for that perfect meal, and knowing just what piece of cookware is going to best suit your style of cooking.
But what if you are new to the kitchen or don’t have the time (or the desire) to make the mistakes that lead to “knowledge through experience”? And, as those of us who cook and bake regularly know, no matter how experienced you become, there are always situations that come up for which we don’t have an immediate answer. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to go and ask? Benefit from someone else’s experience and their research?
Yes? Then this page is tailor-made for you! Ask your question and let me provide an answer from my own experience, that of friends, and family, research, or other site visitors who may have “experienced” your particular inquiry (your input is encouraged).
Every question will be given serious consideration and a timely response. Whether you are looking for a special recipe, need advice on how to cook the perfect prime rib, or need a substitute ingredient for one you don’t have on hand, ask! My philosophy is the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask.
The goal of this page is to create a reference library of questions asked with their responses so it can become a valuable tool in your arsenal of culinary knowledge. I invite you to help me achieve this goal by asking your questions.
